The E3 Youth Opportunity Center

The Bridge manages the West Philadelphia-based E3 Youth Opportunity Center, which helps some of the highest risk youth* in Philadelphia develop the skills, supports, and self esteem necessary to attain academic success, enter the work world and become productive citizens. E3 stands for Education, Employment and Empowerment. Services include basic literacy instruction, GED classes, college and SAT preparation, college introductory trips, cooking, typing, music production, photography, job readiness classes, paid internships, job placement, life skills classes, health education, parenting education, fitness instruction and structured recreational and social activities. All classes are taught and facilitated by certified instructors or trained professional staff.

The E3 Center was created through a Youth Opportunity grant from the United States Department of Labor to help youth acquire the necessary skills and work experience to make a successful transition to adulthood. Whether an individual wishes to pursue a career or further his or her education, the center provides a wide selection of services to help achieve those goals. Programs include:

  • Job readiness training
  • GED prep. (All Levels)
  • GED 101, 201, 301, Math, English, History, Science Language Arts and Writing
  • Life skills
  • Reading/Math remediation
  • Occupational skills training
  • Work exposure
  • Support groups
  • Book club/chess club
  • Writing club
  • Parenting classes
  • Drug abuse prevention
  • Music production
  • Drivers education
  • HIV/AIDS prevention/health education and testing
  • Photography class

*To be eligible for services through E3 Youth Opportunity Center, you must between the ages of 14 and 21 and reside in Philadelphia.
